When considering decriminalization, a major concern is how will greater accessibility affect usage and consequences among teens? In the teen and young adult years the brain is still developing. Can substance use cause irreversible changes in brain chemistry? This recent study published in the Journal of Neuroscience points to changes in regions of the brain affecting emotion and motivation.
